The tool "Board Member Agreement" provides a sample template of an agreement that lists the responsibilities and expectations for a board member who is new to an organization.
This agreement, while not legally binding, does reinforce the board member’s commitment to the organization and its mission.
When creating a board member agreement be sure to take your organization’s mandate, mission, values and by-laws into consideration. This agreement should be discussed with the incoming board member in advance so that all parties are privy to the expectations and legal responsibilities that they are accepting to take on.
